BASE OILS

Starwest carries a line of topical and vegetable base oils (cold, expeller-pressed or unrefined).  Vegetable oils cold or expeller-pressed avoid the use of chemicals and are extracted at low temperatures (no heat treatments of any kind) with simple mechanical means, such as crushing or pressing.   The oils with the most flavor  and with the highest level of vitamins are unrefined.  They take care in storing the oils at low temperatures, protected from light and air exposure. 

Vegetable oils offer many nutrients to the body and can be used cosmetically for massage, bath and facial body care products.  Massage and body oils providing a non-greasy, but good rubbing properties include Apricot Kernal, Avocado, Safflower and Sesame oils. 

Vegetable oils should be stored in a cool, dark area.  Vegetable oils should be refrigerated due to the possibility of becoming rancid, and it is suggested to bring them back to room temperature before use.  When making large quantities of personal body care products using vegetable oils, add 2% Vitamin E oil to act as a natural preservative.
